Revitalization of Czech Television

Idea projektu

The aim was to design the perimeter cladding of the planned extension of the new CT studios and the design of the extension at the main entrance to the Newsroom building, which will expand the insufficient capacity of the existing reception. My design concept is based on simplicity and cleanliness, fitting something legibly new into the existing development and interconnecting with each other. The aim was to use modern materials and bright colours to give the building a new lease of life. The rounding off of the different width panels adds a modern 21st century element to the building. The façade of the new studios: the rounded panels create different shadows and lines, giving the illusion of trying to understand what is happening inside. The vertical lines help to perceive the extension as taller than it actually is. The suspended façade, topped with a plinth above the ground, adds a lightness to the building. The omission of the façade at one storey height creates a lee above the entrance. The aim is an elegant and subtle appearance that will enrich the existing building. Entrance hall with reception: The extension of the entrance hall is smoothly connected to the existing building and does not exceed the height of the storey. By hiding the soffit in the attic, the clear height of the reception area is increased. The glazed areas with no overlight maintain the verticality and purity of the design. Horizontal elements in the interior respect the longitudinal lines. The rounding of two different floor surfaces divides the lobby into a quiet and a busier area, which helps orientation. The main objective of the new hall is clarity and ease of orientation. The reception desk is located directly in the sightline at the entrance. Behind it are eight LED screens with live broadcasts of Czech Television stations. Rest areas are on both sides near well-lit areas. The main corridor from the sliding glass doors is lit by a large skylight. Light is a key aspect of the design. Natural light streams in through the French curved windows. A raised ceiling slab prevents unwanted glare in the summer. Another source of natural light is the skylight. Artificial lighting is provided by longitudinal LED lights directed towards the reception area. Secondary lighting elements are suspended above the reception desk, the bar counter and the table next to the reception desk. The light gap between the LED wall and the ceiling draws attention to the reception. The coffee corner will be a pleasant place to sit or stand for coffee and tea. The original pillars will be retained, painted and inserted into the new extension. The green wall will improve the air and microclimate, bringing greater mental wellbeing. Well-lit greenery will promote the health of the residents.

Popis projektu

URBANISTIC SOLUTION Entrance hall with reception: The surroundings are designed to blend in and not interfere with the parking lot. The access area from the main building towards the annexe is widened at the expense of the car park, allowing for partial separation of the car park from the walkable paved area. This area is bounded by green curved areas that tie into the façade panels. The original planter is replaced with a more modern one with one rounded side to allow the curve to flow smoothly. A smaller planter in the same proportion is also added to match the existing planter with the new one. The walkway roof with greenery adjacent to the building will be revitalized and enhanced with new greenery that will continue to the parking lot. There will be a small public space with benches, pleasant for sitting. The aim is to separate the car park from the forecourt and direct visitors to the main entrance. The added greenery in planters and green spaces will improve the microclimate and air. Facade of the new studios: a 4 metre wide pavement will be laid in front of the extension of the studios to allow the passage of a truck with equipment. There will be a gravel lawn around the site which can be used by vehicles. The fencing of the private property from the adjacent park will be made up of a mesh fence covered with hornbeam trees, which will allow for television feeds without distracting background. A seating area will be proposed to the north under a mature tree for employees to spend their lunch break outside. DISPOSITION DESIGN The main objective of the entrance hall layout was clarity and good orientation for visitors. The concept was based on the main compositional axes, which are supposed to represent the movement of people in the space. The main visual axis from the entrance is the reception desk, which is the most important part of the lobby itself. All movement was to take place in front of this counter, to give an overview of who is moving in the room. To the sides of the entrance there are rest areas, which are also differentiated by different floor surfaces. The rounding between these surfaces is intended to refer to the façade panels themselves. The side entrances are also on the same axis for ease of orientation. The coffee corner in one corner is differentiated by colour to make a different purpose clear. The part of the wall covered with greenery is intended to have a positive effect on the overall microclimate and to promote people's psychological well-being.

Technické informace

STRUCTURAL AND MATERIAL SOLUTION The façade is suspended from a steel support structure that is firmly anchored to the main building structure. The steel elements are protected against corrosion and ensure the stability of the entire façade. The panels are made of UHPC concrete, which ensures long life and resistance to weathering. The panels are rounded and suspended from the supporting structure by special anchoring systems on the grid, which allows the facade to expand and move without damage. The load-bearing structure of the entrance hall extension is made of YTONG aerated concrete blocks with thermal insulation and UHPC concrete panels as a finish. In the interior, the main materials are concrete, which is used as a concrete screed for the floor and also for the walls with a different texture, and oak wood as the material for the floor of the rest area and furniture. The secondary material is stone, which is used as marble for the worktop in the coffee corner. The imitation stone is then used for the reception desk.
