Idea projektu
This bachelor thesis focuses on the design of a family house in the Prague district of Dejvice, on the site of the former historic homestead Mydlářka. The project was developed under academic supervision and aims to create a modern house that respects and responds to the unique character of the location. One of the key elements of the site is a preserved Milan wall, which defines the edge of the plot. The design uses this wall not just as a boundary but as an important architectural feature that helps shape the layout and spatial atmosphere of the house. The concept is based on the Raumplan idea, meaning that the interior spaces are arranged in a way that follows the terrain and creates vertical connections between rooms. The house consists of two simple volumes, connected by a light, transparent structure that works as a transition space between the interior and exterior. The goal of the project is to find a balance between modern architecture and the historical context of the site, without relying on imitation or historical pastiche.
Popis projektu
The design of a family villa for visiting professors from universities such as CTU and UCT, realized on the site of the former Mydlářka homestead, represents an innovative approach to architecture through the concept of “House and Wall.” This project combines modern design with historical elements, emphasizing the interaction between the living space and the Milan Wall, which plays a key role in the overall layout. The villa is characterized by varying elevation levels that enhance both functionality and aesthetics. As seen in the photographs, the living areas are situated on higher levels, providing panoramic views and abundant natural light. This variety in height creates an engaging interior dynamic while also allowing for a smooth transition between different zones, such as work and social areas located on the lower levels. The Milan Wall serves as a prominent architectural breakpoint that both separates and connects various parts of the space. Between the wall and the house lies a gap that is both visually and functionally enriched by an overflow pond. This pond not only acts as a visual feature adding to the space’s appeal, but also contributes to the ecological aspect of the design by supporting biodiversity and improving the local microclimate. Bridges lead to the Milan Wall, enabling access while also emphasizing its importance within the overall concept. These bridges both connect different parts of the villa and promote interaction between the architecture and the surrounding natural environment. In combination with natural vegetation and terrain shaping, the house becomes an integral part of the landscape, enhancing both its appeal and functionality. The villa is designed with sustainability and ecological considerations in mind, as reflected in the use of natural materials and integrated green spaces. Overall, the “House and Wall” concept represents a modern and functional architectural approach that respects the site’s historical and natural context, offering a unique space for both living and working.
