Idea projektu
The project presents a comprehensive urban-landscape concept for the restoration of the historic core of Dolní Kounice ( Czech Republic), which reflects the needs of the modern town and its inhabitants, respects historical values and responds to the challenges of climate change.
Popis projektu
Floodplain park The central element of the design is a floodplain park that transforms a previously neglected area in close contact with the Jihlava river into a vibrant, nature-friendly urban space. The park is designed as a multifunctional landscape element that fulfils several essential functions: - hydrological, providing retention capacity during flood conditions and supporting natural infiltration and slowing down of rainwater runoff, - recreational, with a wide range of activities for all age groups (sports areas, pedestrian and cycling paths, rest areas, places for fishing and contact with water), - ecological, with the aim of enhancing biodiversity and supporting environmental processes in the urban landscape. The park includes a new riverside embankment with steps that make the river more accessible and create an attractive public space. In addition, the proposal includes pedestrian and cycle footbridges that provide a link to the city across the river, including an alternative route to be used at times of high water. Mlýnské square The park is closely linked to the design of the new urban structure on Mlýnské square, which today is a largely neglected space without a clear identity. The significant urban design change creates a modern block that forms a compact block of urban development within which a new cultural centre is located, serving as a key element of community life. The associated buildings of the former mill, currently in a disastrous structural and technical state, together with the historic mill villa and the former factory buildings, are proposed for redevelopment with subsequent revitalisation to enable their transformation and new functional integration into the urban fabric. The urban design concept of the Mlýnské square is complemented by a sophisticated blue-green infrastructure, which, in the form of retention and infiltration elements, supports the efficient circulation of rainwater and significantly contributes to improving the microclimatic conditions in the urban space. This green space not only increases the ecological stability of the area, but also provides a pleasant living environment and contributes to the adaptation of the city to climate change.
Technické informace
The proposal provides the town of Dolní Kounice with practical solutions for long-term sustainability, functionality and quality of life. Investments in the flood park and the revitalisation of the Mlýnské square will strengthen flood protection, create modern public spaces and activate the local community. Thanks to the innovative combination of urban planning and nature, Dolní Kounice will become an example of effective urban adaptation to climate challenges and a model for other municipalities. This is an investment that will bring returns in the form of a safer, healthier and more attractive environment for current and future generations.
