Domek Stromek

Idea projektu

The assignment for this project was to design a shelter for pilgrims traveling along the Camino de Santiago as it passes through Prague on the way to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. The aim was to create a structure that respectfully blends into the surrounding forest, with minimal impact on the terrain. It offers a space for mental rest and self-development, free from modern luxuries, allowing visitors to reconnect with themselves and nature.

Popis projektu

It consists of three elevated units: one main unit, which contains a kitchen and seating area, and two smaller side units, each housing four netted bunk beds, a toilet, and a shower. The side units are separated to provide more privacy, while the main unit serves as a gathering space for pilgrims without disturbing the peace of others. The communal area offers views into the forest and toward the Vrané reservoir. The private areas are oriented primarily toward the reservoir, with the showers looking out into the forest. The units are connected to a supply of drinking water, while water for showering and flushing is recycled from rainwater.

Technické informace

The structure is built on a steel frame made of I-beams, providing high load-bearing capacity and stability. Layers of OSB boards are used throughout the wall buildup, offering structural rigidity and surface for cladding and finishing. Mineral insulation combined with KVH structural timber is placed between the OSB layers to ensure excellent thermal and acoustic performance. A breathable membrane is applied externally to allow moisture to escape while protecting the interior from water ingress. Thermal breaks are incorporated between the steel I-beams and wooden components to reduce thermal bridging and improve energy efficiency. The external cladding consists of Alpine wooden shingles, chosen for their natural appearance and traditional aesthetic. An epoxy layer is used on the interior surface as a protective and durable finish. The construction includes a window recess integrated into the timber framework to accommodate glazed openings without compromising insulation.
