Project idea

The 27 de Febrero Market, located in Cuenca, Ecuador, is one of the most important facilities in the southern part of the city. Despite its strategic location and its role as a wholesale and retail supply center, the market has suffered progressive deterioration due to a lack of interventions for more than 40 years. This situation has generated problems with mobility, safety, diversity of uses, and a lack of community-owned spaces, affecting both merchants and visitors.

Project description

The lack of improvements has compromised its ability to adequately serve the surrounding parishes and maintain its relevance in Cuenca's urban life. In order to preserve its social and cultural value, a comprehensive intervention project is necessary that responds to the current needs of its users. Therefore, through an anthropological analysis, the proposal focuses on four key points: the creation of a recreational axis on Solano Avenue, the renovation of its infrastructure, the incorporation of nearby recreational spaces, and a diversification of uses to revitalize social relations and improve market safety.

Technical information

The building's construction is made primarily of steel profiles designed for a formal and functional finish, in addition to incorporating prefabricated elements into the project's ceiling (prefabricated ceramic masonry cladding).
