dom bl. Jána Havlíka

Idea projektu

The assignment was the adaptation of a building that served as a dormitory for seminarians of the Vincentian order and a pastoral center. Since Blessed Ján Havlík lived in this building during his studies as a priest, whom we consider to be the greatest value that the building hides, the person of Jank Havlík and his path of trust and loyalty was the main inspiration for us. His life is conveyed in the framework of possibilities, where the first underground floor, which is buried under the ground, communicates the years that Janko spent in the darkness of the uranium mines. The first floor above ground reflects life in the fellowship and community while he was in prison and offers space for building relationships and finding the good and beauty in the other person. The second above-ground floor with a chapel points to freedom and eternal life in heaven, which refer to faithfulness and humility to endure suffering.

Popis projektu

Layout-wise and conceptually, we tried to connect the entire building with the legacy of Janko Havlík, where the sunken first underground floor with a cafe, facilities for the hospice, a studio and the entrance to the pastoral center recalls the years spent in the uranium mines. On the first above-ground floor, there is a common room, a suite for guests and private + barrier-free rooms with social equipment, pointing to Janko's life spent in the community of people. First in the family, later among the Vincentians and finally in prison. The second above-ground floor with a dining room, a smaller common room, an office and especially a chapel with a stained-glass dome represents the lightness and freedom that Janko earned in heaven by his faithfulness in suffering and difficulties during his life here on earth. In the attic there are other rooms for accommodation. We divide the exterior - yard and garden into three parts according to their functions. A quieter meditation garden near a plum tree line with an added way of the cross, with 14 stations (which symbolize the 14 years Janko was originally sentenced to), The utility part of the garden is important for the Vincentians as a space to relax, grow plants and store tools needed for maintenance. The third part of the garden creates a space for meeting and spending time outside in community, either by grilling or playing table tennis or other leisure activities.

Technické informácie

Structurally, we preserved the supporting system as well as the system of two and three sections of the building. We changed the non-bearing structures so that the layout and functionality of the building met the new requirements, and at the same time we were able to modernize it by adding an elevator, an evacuation staircase, and solve the interior height differences with ramps, so that the building would also be suitable for people with disabilities. At the same time, by replacing the roof, we gained interesting and valuable spaces on the third above-ground floor and were able to occupy the attic. We added several new features to the building, in the form of new entrances, mainly from the street view, an evacuation staircase, a skylight on the third above-ground floor and the installation of four walls in the yard, which can be used for summer screenings, but also as an exterior exhibition space.
