Idea projektu
The Science and Exhibition Centre NEWTON is designed as a standalone building. Its form developed in response to the proposed slope. The design and architectural concept are based on a pure white organic shape with undulating forms. The architecture is inspired by and integrated into a broader context of unusual shapes intended to capture attention. Integration with the surrounding environment is emphasized by the walkable green roof. The building creates a harmonious relationship with the greenery and supports an environmental and aesthetic experience. The building features prominent window structures with organic shapes that distinguish it from the surrounding development. The roof is cantilevered and continues the undulating form of the southern facade. The building is finished in a neutral white color so that on the western side it is accented by a kinetic facade made of triangular copper-colored elements. This movable structure is meant to represent the genius and versatility of world scientists. The building allows flexibility and adaptability of the space according to the required scientific activities and exhibition purposes. Its modularity enables various interior layouts and creates a suitable environment for research, education, and cultural public events. The surroundings of the building are designed to offer visitors pleasant outdoor spaces for relaxation and leisure. Gardens and terraces contribute to the city’s aesthetics and atmosphere. Architecturally, the design complies with the requirements defined in the Ružinov zoning plan and respects and adheres to all relevant regulations and restrictions regarding the design, size, and function of buildings in the area.
Popis projektu
The first underground floor is primarily intended for underground parking for employees and visitors of the centre. There are 63 parking spaces for passenger cars. In addition, this floor houses storage rooms, a technical room with a heat source, and air conditioning machinery rooms. At the elevation level of -2.500 m from the project baseline, an auditorium with a technical room behind the projection wall is designed. The auditorium is excavated from the sides and is defined as an above-ground floor. Exterior entrances from terraces around the building also lead to the auditorium. The ground floor is largely designated for exhibition spaces. It includes areas for reception, restrooms, a cloakroom for coats, a souvenir shop, storage rooms, janitorial rooms, and a dominant buffet area. Seating is provided by the buffet with direct access to the main terrace. The seating area is separated by a railing and a turnstile due to direct access from the terrace. The main staircase with a panoramic elevator and other staircases in the exhibition area lead to the first floor, which is intended for exhibition spaces, laboratories, and the administrative section for the center’s employees. This floor also includes a room for cleaning staff. Furthermore, the main staircase leads up to the second floor, which serves as a multifunctional space and as an exit to the walkable green roof. This roof follows an artificially created slope behind the auditorium. From the roof, a smooth descent to the surrounding terrain at the project baseline level is possible. All floors are connected by a fire staircase with an evacuation elevator.
Technické informácie
The Science and Exhibition Centre NEWTON has one underground floor designed with a combined structural load-bearing system, consisting of a perimeter monolithic reinforced concrete wall 400 mm thick and primary internal reinforced concrete columns sized 400 x 400 mm and 500 x 500 mm, along with secondary columns sized 180 x 300 mm that only support the ceiling slab above the first underground floor. The ground floor have a monlithic reinforced concrete grid ceiling structure. The slab between the 1st and 2nd floors is a monolithic reinforced concrete slab 400 mm thick. The walls of the auditorium, buffet, southern facade, and representative staircase are load-bearing monolithic reinforced concrete walls with thicknesses of 200 and 300 mm. Foundations are solved by a combination of a foundation slab, footings under the columns, and strips under the walls. Under the elevator shafts, the foundation slab is lowered. Waterproofing of the underground structure is done with modified asphalt sheets Elastobit GG 40 SP SBS. The exterior envelope primarily consists of a lightweight facade system of the Jansen Viss type and a front reinforced concrete wall with large-format GFRP cladding. The walls and parapets are insulated with 180 mm thick Isover Fassil NT mineral wool and have a ventilated cladding mounted on an aluminum grid. The auditorium walls in contact with the ground are insulated with 100 mm thick XPS Styrodur 2800 C insulation. Exterior window and door fillings are made of strip-galvanized steel of the Jansen Janisol HI type. The building is covered with a flat walkable green roof, sloped toward internal drains and, on the steep part, toward continuous gutters. The roof is designed with a traditional layer sequence and insulated with 240 mm thick EPS Isover 200S thermal insulation. The waterproofing membrane is designed with 3 mm thick Icopal Universal WS POCB foil. The vapor barrier is made of modified asphalt sheets Elastobit GG 40 SP SBS. The flat roof above the 2nd floor is built on a trapezoidal sheet metal structure and insulated with 280 mm thick EPS Isover 150S thermal insulation, with the same waterproofing membrane and Alu-Tec FR vapor barrier. The stairs are monolithic reinforced concrete slabs, sometimes cantilevered, with thicknesses of 170 and 200 mm. The staircases are single-flight, double-flight, and triple-flight. The fire staircase includes a Schindler 5500 evacuation elevator in a monolithic reinforced concrete shaft 200 mm thick, with a cabin size of 1.7 x 2.75 m. The main staircase has a panoramic elevator shaft with a glazed Schindler 5500 elevator, cabin size 2.0 x 2.5 m. Interior partitions are drywall constructions made from R-CW profiles, and depending on purpose, thickness, and fire load, are double or triple layered with Rigips RF DF gypsum boards or Rigidur gypsum fiber boards. They are insulated with Isover Akuplat+ glass fiber insulation. Glazed interior walls of the Jansen Viss Economy 50 type are designed inside. Floors are adapted to the purpose of the spaces. Overall, floors are cast with SikaFloor polyurethane flooring, and in sanitary areas, ceramic tiles are used. The auditorium has a non-slip laminate flooring finish. Interior doors are supplied by Dre in the Standard 10 version with concealed frames type Dre Sara Eco 2. They are made from a softwood frame with an HDF board and hollow chipboard filling.
