Idea projektu
The idea behind the project was to bring new quality to the town of Kyjov and transform it into an attractive and lively place. I chose to work with a brownfield site—an act of sustainability that respects the land by avoiding the consumption of new arable soil. Reimagining what was once neglected allows the town to grow inward, rather than outward, honoring its past while shaping a thoughtful future.
Popis projektu
How can we breathe new life into a small town with hidden potential, where people steadily drift away toward larger cities? This proposal seeks to rekindle the spirit of Kyjov by transforming a forgotten brownfield along the river into a vibrant place people are drawn to, not from. The old mill has been reimagined as a cultural heart—home to a coworking hub and a community space, where ideas and stories can flow as freely as the nearby river. An abandoned transport silo now serves a new purpose as a projection screen, echoing memories and future visions alike. A newly designed gallery rises beside it, adding layers of art and meaning to the site. At the center of it all, a residential building embraces the Kyjovka River, opening itself to the landscape and helping shape a lively, inviting riverbank that thrives in harmony with the cultural center.
Technické informácie
The new residential building is made of masonry, supplemented with concrete reinforcing walls. The new gallery building has a skeletal structure with a lightweight facade envelope.
