What is a village?

The project is focusing on the village Popice u Jihlavy in the Czech Republic. This village grows very fast (in 10 years more than 200 %) and it is expected that it will grow in the future. In my project I am focusing on the design of the future development of the village, but especially the centrum, which desperately needs attention, because these days there is actually no place for people to gather in the center. In my project, I am searching for existing potential, and then and with my project I follow up on this potential and try to intervene as little as possible in the building structure.

The project is divided into 3 parts. Firstly it is the urban plan of the whole village, the continuously the project is more focused on the center of the village, where I divide the whole center into 5 parts with a huge focus on existing potential and finally, I am designing the building of the community center. The newly designed building uses the existing building of an abandoned farm, which the project will partially preserve while adding three masses that represent the individual new functions introduced to the building. It is a greenhouse that follows the former function of the building, a community center, and then a lookout tower, which has a dual meaning. The main reason is without a doubt the fact that the village lacks any identity, any identifiable point of reference. Therefore, in this project, I am trying to bring such a valuable element to the village. The second reason is simply the fact that from this place there is a wonderful view of the surrounding countryside. In the project, I clearly distinguish the old existing building from the newly added mass, which tries to be very light and airy.

The new structure is designed from metal combined with glass. The original structure is brick with a wooden roof.
