The new object Parohatá

The purpose of the project was to design a new object “Parohatá” in zoo in Brno. The object is located in Brno, in the urban district Brno Bystrc. The goal of the proposal was a technical base for employees.

The building is situated in the forested area. There is a road above the building accessible to the public, a paved road that leads directly to the building. The paved road is accessible only for the employees. The construction site is on a sloping terrain. The paved area in front of the building allows employees to manipulate with the hay. Vehicles can turn here. The new road allows the employees to take the hey to the hayloft which is located on the second floor. The hay loft has the access from the other side also, so it’s possible to supply the building with the hay and the employees don’t have to walk around the building. The aim of the design was that the building fit into the surroundings and isn't too visible to zoo visitors. The building is partially embedded in the terrain. The object is designed as a two-story building. The first floor can be divided into a part for employees and an operational part, where tools and feed are stored. The building has two entrances. The first is to enter the corridor, which also functions as a vestibule. From the corridor, you can enter the day room, technical and cleaning room or you can continue down the corridor and enter the changing rooms, shower baths or toilets. On the left side of the building, there is located an entrance to the tool storage, from which we can reach the feed storage. The feed storage and the tool storage are spacious, so it’s possible to store the wheel barrows and all the tools which the employees who take care of the horned animals need.

The first floor is designed as a concrete wall structure. The ceiling between the first and the second floor is made of reinforced concrete. It has a large thickness due to the fact that heavy bales of hay are stored on the second floor. The second floor consists of a wooden frame, the maximum axial distance of the columns is 4800 mm. The columns have dimensions of 180 x 180 mm. The console structure is solved by cantilevers. The roof is made of vegetative roof tiles, which are laid on wooden battens. The first floor clearance is 3000 mm and the second floor 3500 mm, so the hay bales can be handled easily there. When it comes to materials, the building is designed by using simple natural materials. It is made of concrete, wood and glass. The first floor is made of concrete, the second floor is made of wood, the pine wood. In the day room, there is a French window to give a lot of light to the room, mainly because it is the only living room in the building. The windows have wooden frames. The entrance door and the door to the hayloft are also wooden. The hayloft has a perforated facade which allows good ventilation to the hayloft.
