COMPLETION OF THE 4TH QUADRANT OF VICTORY SQUARE

The completion of the 4th quadrant of Vítězný náměstí addresses unused land in an exclusive location on the border of Vítězný náměstí and the university campus. The project will elevate the current use and quality of the public realm, offering new leisure and employment opportunities and providing the public with exceptional views, including views of Prague Castle. The newly designed landmark and centre of Prague 6 looks towards the future, but its shell reflects the present and past of Dejvice. The main aim was to preserve the permeability of the area, create new high-quality pedestrian links, a fully-fledged public space and offer activities for users of the new buildings and the general public.

The land is imaginatively divided into two halves by stretching Technical Street to Vítězné náměstí. Two superblocks are proposed on the plot, supplemented by a high-rise building. Good permeability through the area is maintained, thanks to several passages on the ground and free access and passage through the inner blocks. The intersection of Šolínova and Technická Streets is newly designed as an off-grade crossing. This solution will make the pedestrian corridor to the colleges more pleasant and safer, and no additional ramps are needed to enter the underground garages and supply the buildings. Other newly created layers of public spaces are publicly accessible roof terraces on all buildings, interconnected bridges and a passage in the 1st floor connected to the Dejvická metro station lobby. The roof terraces and the upper floors of the buildings offer exclusive views of Dejvice and especially of Prague Castle. In the northern part of the plot a new park with water features has been created. In winter, this space will be used for public skating, traditionally held on this plot. An amphitheatre for outdoor events and concerts is located in the right courtyard. The left courtyard contains the market building, for holding popular farmers' markets. It is a collection of separate buildings unified by an outer envelope and connected by bridges. The functions of the individual buildings are shown in the diagram to the right and in the floor plans at the bottom of the poster. The buildings respond in height to the surrounding buildings. Two blocks of 6 and 8 storeys are complemented by a high-rise building of 21 storeys. There is one floor of shops and services and two floors of underground garages.

Structurally, it is a skeletal structure made of reinforced concrete with a double skin façade. The detailed design of the façade is presented on the second poster.
