Idea projektu
The project involves designing a secondary boarding school in rural Zambia. Children from this area lack opportunities for further education, and the school could give them a better future. The idea behind the design is to create a school that is simple to build using locally available materials, sustainable, and respectful of local climatic conditions and possibilities.
Popis projektu
Kashitu School is a boarding secondary school in Zambia that offers children from this area secondary education that was previously unavailable to them. Due to the long distances and poor transport links, the proposed school complex also includes dormitory for students and teachers. The basic idea behind the project is to keep the construction as simple as possible. This is reflected in the choice of materials, the architecture of the buildings, and the urban design of the entire school complex. The buildings are made of ICEB bricks, which will be produced on site using a special brick-making machine. Other materials used are traditionally used in the area. The roads within the complex and the buildings themselves are laid out in an imaginary square grid measuring 4.8 x 4.8 m, which can facilitate the marking out of the site at the start of construction. The buildings have a uniform architectural style, which means that the building elements, including the trusses, can be reused on all buildings.
Technické informace
The buildings in the complex are mainly constructed using a brick system, with a combination system used for some buildings. The walls are built from ICEB unfired bricks, produced directly on site using a special brick-making machine. For better ventilation of the interior, perforated brickwork will be inserted into the brick wall in some places, which will be created by turning ICEB unfired bricks. The roof truss will be constructed using wooden trusses made in the school carpentry workshop. Simplicity of construction is one of the main aspects of the design, which is why there are only two roof spans in the entire complex, specifically 4.8 and 9.6 meters. Thanks to this, only two types of single-slope trusses are sufficient for roofing the complex. Trapezoidal sheet metal will be used as roofing. The sheet metal will be painted white to partially prevent excessive overheating of the interior. The windows and doors will be made of wood and painted white.
