This project offers a sensitive and pedagogically informed design for a new architecture department, drawing on the principles of Michel Ecochard while responding to the hot and arid climate of Karachi. The zoning strategy—dividing the project into studio spaces, public/multipurpose functions, and administrative blocks—demonstrates a clear organizational logic. The integration of outdoor spaces, cantilevered roofs, and permeable walls reflects a deep consideration for climate-responsive architecture, particularly the use of brise-soleil elements and stone walls to mitigate solar gain.
The design’s focus on interactivity and spatial continuity—evident in the amphitheater, roof gardens, and visual dialogue between faculty and student zones—aligns well with contemporary educational environments. However, while the conceptual intentions are strong, the architectural articulation could benefit from more refinement in structural detailing, internal circulation, and façade rhythm. The visual identity, though modest, would be enhanced through a stronger material hierarchy and expressive spatial thresholds.
Overall, this is a thoughtful academic design that respects climate, pedagogy, and institutional legacy, with room for further development in architectural resolution and expressive coherence.
