As a jury member, I would like to express my deep appreciation for this project, which demonstrates a sophisticated understanding of connecting urban context with cultural functions. The idea of extending the Rostov-on-Don embankment and creating a vibrant attraction point shows a clear vision for revitalizing the area and turning it into a lively destination for both residents and visitors.
The exterior design, inspired by the wave form, strongly relates to the natural riverside setting, reinforcing the building’s sense of place. Inside, the flowing plywood panels and smooth spatial transitions create a welcoming and well-organized environment that guides visitors effortlessly, balancing aesthetics with functionality.
The use of a framed structural system combined with the spatial shell roof allows for complex, fluid architectural forms reminiscent of Zaha Hadid’s work, representing a notable technical and design achievement. The calm and neutral color palette enhances the feeling of lightness and comfort, while highlighting the natural materials used throughout.
However, the project does have some weaknesses. The interior spaces, while elegant, could benefit from more flexibility to accommodate a wider range of events or uses beyond traditional concert formats. Some areas feel somewhat rigid in function, which might limit the building’s adaptability over time. Additionally, the minimalistic approach, though calming, risks creating spaces that may feel too sterile or lacking in warmth and character, potentially reducing emotional engagement for some visitors.
Moreover, the strong focus on smooth, flowing forms might challenge wayfinding for certain users, despite efforts to guide visitors through movement. Finally, more integration between indoor and outdoor spaces could enhance the overall experience, especially given the site’s prime riverside location.
Overall, this project presents a well-rounded and innovative architectural solution that successfully addresses the site’s challenges and meets cultural and social needs. With some adjustments to increase flexibility and user engagement, it has strong potential to become a landmark cultural hub for Rostov-on-Don.
