This project presents a sensitive and ambitious adaptive reuse strategy for revitalizing La Gare train station in Addis Ababa, skillfully balancing heritage preservation with contemporary urban needs. The thoughtful restoration of the historic Buffet De Lagare restaurant, coupled with the modernization of the train station to enhance commuter experience, demonstrates a comprehensive approach to both cultural and functional renewal. The integration of green spaces, public art, and pedestrian connectivity further supports the project’s vision of creating a vibrant social and cultural hub. The focus on sustainable technologies, accessibility improvements, and structural rehabilitation reflects a well-rounded and pragmatic technical understanding. To further strengthen the project, more detailed articulation of phased implementation and community engagement strategies could be explored. Overall, this proposal stands out as an inspiring model of respectful yet transformative heritage-led urban regeneration.
