The "War Museum in Kosovo 1998–1999" is a conceptual project that envisions a national memorial space dedicated to preserving the memory of the Kosovo War. The design features a striking glass and timber structure, symbolizing both transparency and resilience. Its angular, intersecting forms evoke the fragmentation and upheaval experienced during the conflict, while the use of laminated wood and steel reflects a commitment to sustainable and enduring construction.
Functionally, the museum is designed to serve as more than a repository of artifacts; it aims to provide an immersive educational experience. Through multimedia installations and carefully curated exhibits, visitors are invited to engage with the personal and collective narratives of the war. The integration of indoor and outdoor spaces, facilitated by the transparent façade, allows for a continuous dialogue between the museum's interior and its urban surroundings.
In the broader context of Kosovo's efforts to commemorate the 1998–1999 conflict, this project contributes to the ongoing discourse on how architecture can facilitate remembrance and healing. While several smaller museums and memorials exist throughout the country, there remains a recognized need for a comprehensive national institution that encapsulates the full scope of the war's impact. This conceptual design offers a compelling vision for such a space, balancing aesthetic innovation with profound cultural significance.
