The Maritime Museum project beautifully fuses Sri Lanka’s maritime heritage with modern architectural expression, using organic forms and advanced timber techniques to create a dynamic and immersive experience. The design’s sensitivity to the site’s historical and natural context—framing views of Galle’s landmarks and coastline—effectively connects storytelling with the environment. The innovative use of laminated timber structures and passive design strategies enhances sustainability while paying homage to traditional shipbuilding. To further strengthen the project, it is recommended to consider incorporating interactive exhibits or sensory elements that deepen visitor engagement, and to develop resilience strategies for the timber elements given the coastal climate. Overall, the project masterfully bridges past and future, offering a visionary addition to Galle’s cultural landscape.
