This scheme is delivered to a really high level of detail and reflects a mature and balanced approach to urban design. This scheme reflects a clear appreciation of brownfield-scale regeneration and a successful integration of residential areas, public space, and landscaping that is reflected as a functional and functional living neighborhood. There is a clearly defined and legible scale that is functionally sized in a positive way to facilitate public interaction as part of everyday living. The sensitive reuse of industrial heritage information such as existing train lines and historic buildings provides positive depth to the site as a whole as opposed to a clean sheet. But perhaps as important is the scheme’s reflection of inclusivity and sustainability in its intentions to deliver a positive environmental and ideally socially inclusive scheme.
Perhaps the suggestion for improvement would relate to further emphasizing the identity of the key public spaces by perhaps adding architectural or programmed markers. While the urban framework and landscape pattern work satisfactorily, perhaps adding some explicitly identifiable markers, perhaps in the form of a culture pavilion or a community center or a mixed-use landmark building, might emphasize orientation. It might help to emphasize the hierarchy of public spaces, thereby in effect creating a very strong social core for the district.
