The project presents a compelling and well-developed architectural response to the brief of a tropical pavilion, with a strong experiential concept rooted in the metaphor of a cave and a gradual spatial transition from compression to openness. The sequence of movement is clear and convincing, offering visitors a carefully choreographed journey that enhances immersion and anticipation, which is particularly appropriate for an animal exhibition environment. The spatial organization successfully separates visitor circulation, animal enclosures, and staff facilities, demonstrating a solid understanding of functional requirements and operational logic. The integration of indoor and outdoor habitats, observation decks, and public amenities such as the restaurant strengthens the pavilion’s role as both an educational and recreational space. Structurally, the project is ambitious and technically articulated, with a clear system of steel columns, trusses, and reinforced concrete elements supporting the architectural intent. The interior atmosphere is well considered, especially through the use of filtered daylight, vegetation, and material contrast to evoke a tropical environment. However, the architectural expression of the exterior remains relatively restrained in comparison to the richness of the interior experience, and the relationship between the facade and the strong internal narrative could be further reinforced. Overall, this is a strong, coherent project with a clear concept, thoughtful spatial sequencing, and solid technical grounding, demonstrating a high level of architectural maturity and competition readiness.
Strengthen the connection between the exterior architectural expression and the interior experiential concept so that the idea of the “cave” and gradual spatial unfolding is legible already from the outside, not only after entering the pavilion. The entrance sequence could be more clearly articulated to emphasize the transition from compression to openness and to better orient first-time visitors. While the structural system is clearly defined, the high number of columns could be refined or rationalized in selected areas to improve spatial clarity and visitor comfort, especially along primary circulation routes. Environmental strategies such as daylight control, humidity regulation, and ventilation critical for tropical animals should be more explicitly demonstrated through sections or diagrams to reinforce the project’s technical credibility. Finally, the relationship between visitor circulation and animal welfare could be further clarified, ensuring visual proximity enhances education without causing stress to the animals, particularly in areas with elevated walkways and large glazed surfaces.
