This project presents a sensitive and well-considered architectural response to a specific social and spatial need within the Senior-park Bažantnice, demonstrating a clear understanding of both the physical context and the everyday life of its users. The proposal’s greatest strength lies in its careful mediation between architecture, landscape, and accessibility: by resolving the site’s height difference through a two-level configuration, the project successfully creates a barrier-free connection between the senior living facility and the Bažantnice park, transforming a previously difficult terrain condition into an architectural asset. The wine bar is convincingly conceived not as an isolated commercial object, but as an integral social extension of the senior residence, offering spaces for meeting, rest, and gentle social activity. The material strategy is coherent and appropriate, with the contrast between transparent curtain walls and solid concrete volumes clearly expressing programmatic differences between public, social areas and the more introverted wine storage spaces. The roof terraces are particularly well handled, adding an important communal layer that enhances views, social interaction, and the relationship to nature without overcomplicating the building form. Overall, the project demonstrates architectural restraint, clarity of concept, and strong contextual awareness, resulting in a calm, dignified intervention that aligns well with the needs of senior users and the character of the surrounding landscape.
Clarify the spatial experience for senior users by more explicitly demonstrating how barrier-free circulation is achieved throughout all level changes, particularly at thresholds between the senior facility, terraces, and the wine bar interior. While the material contrast between concrete and glass is conceptually strong, additional refinement in detailing such as handrails, floor textures, and edge conditions could further improve safety, comfort, and tactile orientation for elderly users. The external staircase and gabion retaining walls would benefit from a clearer integration with seating, resting points, or planting, allowing them to function not only as circulation elements but also as social or contemplative spaces. The relationship between interior wine bar functions and outdoor terraces could be strengthened through more flexible openings or seasonal configurations to encourage year-round use. Finally, the project could gain depth by more clearly addressing environmental performance, such as thermal comfort, shading, and natural ventilation, particularly in the highly glazed areas facing the park.
