The basic idea of the architectural study is to create an optimal environment that could be used not only for school purposes but also by the general public. The architectural study must meet the requirements for barrier-free use of buildings. The community centre building is to be located in the existing school garden and should be connected to the surrounding road system.

Urban design
The area is located in the northern part of the city of Brno, in the Lesná district on Vaculíkova Street. The land is located in a panel housing estate, which was built in the 1960s and 1970s. The proposed buildings are situated on the territory of the existing school garden, which lies on a slightly sloping terrain. They are sited on the site to retain as much of the existing greenery as possible whilst allowing convenient access to the buildings from the school premises and the public realm. There are primary and nursery schools, sports facilities and commercial services in the vicinity of the site. Connection to the city centre is provided by road transport and public transport, specifically bus and tram services.

Architectural design
The school garden is located on a slightly sloping terrain. The area is divided into two parts - a private part for school activities and a part open to the public. The café and the private part of the garden are located on terraces that are accessible by stairs and ramps. The entrance to the site is located at the edge of the southern part. This is followed by a public relaxation area, which is then connected to the café and outdoor seating with a stage. The café building is single storey and has a rectangular plan which is divided into three parts. The outermost parts of the building are clad horizontally with wooden panelling and covered by a pitched roof. The side walls of these parts are glazed and can be fully opened thanks to a sliding door and window system. The middle part of the café is glazed and covered by a flat roof. In the eastern part of the garden there is a stage with adjacent facilities. The stage is connected to the café building by a system of wooden pillars around which outdoor seating is placed. Protection against the sun and rain is provided by a waterproof polyester fabric, which is attached to the pillars on rails that allow the fabric to be manipulated. A system of ramps is being built behind the café, already in a private part of the garden, to provide faster access to the café from the school premises. The terrace on the west side of the café is separated from the public area by a wooden fence. The terrace contains areas for gardening and relaxation. There is a small warehouse for storing gardening equipment, which is vertically lined with wooden panelling and covered with a pitched roof. Access from the terrace to the lawn is provided by a ramp.

Layout
The entrance to the café is located in the eastern part of the building. The building is divided into three parts. In the first part, there is a café bar and seating area, followed by the café service area, a technical room and storage space. The second part is also dedicated to the café area and sanitary facilities. In the third part there is a hall with adjacent facilities and storage space. The hall provides access to a private part of the garden. The café is connected to the stage by outdoor seating, which is connected to the back room with storage and sanitary facilities. In the private part of the garden there is a designated area where pupils can garden. Raised planters are placed on the terrace to allow access for people with orthopaedic wheelchairs. The other part of the terrace is dedicated to a relaxation area with benches.

All buildings are designed as wooden buildings. Vertical load-bearing structures are made of CLT panels of 200 mm thickness. The thermal insulation of the building is made of graphite polystyrene insulation 150 mm thick. CLT panels of 100 mm thickness are used for the partitions. The foundation structure consists of foundation strips. Perimeter cladding structures are covered with white silicate plaster and Siberian larch wood cladding. The terraces around the buildings consist of a concrete structure, which is covered with WPC flooring from above. The roof structure of the buildings consists of pitched roofs, which are covered with folded titanium zinc roofing. Dark aluminium frames are used for the construction of the windows. The private and public parts of the garden are separated by a wooden fence with sliding gates. The boundary of the property is bordered by a hedge.
