The concept of the proposed student lounge space is grounded in the principles of flexibility and sharing. The dominant interior element is a long table composed of modular segments, symbolizing unity and equality. It can be rearranged as needed to adapt to various spatial requirements.
A subtle metal frame with a circular opening serves as a focal point, positioned opposite the elevator entrance. It visually separates the lounge from the corridor, providing a degree of privacy without complete isolation. The circular opening acts as a window into the lounge while also referencing the building’s circular core.
Glazed classroom walls allow natural light to penetrate the spaces. For added privacy, frosted glass was used—permitting daylight while shielding the interior from direct views. The space is also equipped with lockable personal storage. Acoustic ceiling panels were installed to improve sound quality and enhance overall spatial comfort.
Near the corridor entrance, a more formal seating area with a photo wall was introduced. Natural light now flows into the corridor through glazed meeting rooms and transparent doors. The addition of built-in seating niches contributes to a visually expanded and more dynamic corridor environment.

The University of Economics in Bratislava was established in 1940. The construction of the current campus began in 1983. Today, the university consists of seven faculties, including the Faculty of Business Management, which is the subject of this design proposal.
The assignment focused on redesigning the layout and interior of a specific section on the 5th floor – specifically the student lounge (respírium) and the adjacent corridor near the dean’s office. The design covers two main functional zones: the student lounge area and the corridor of the Faculty of Business Management.
The lounge is envisioned as a leisure and relaxation space for students, located within the interior layout of the building and directly connected to the central circular communication core. The space is enclosed by classrooms and features sanitary facilities, as well as entrances to the staff area at both ends.
The dean’s corridor contains several administrative offices, including the dean’s office, the secretary’s office, a kitchenette, and a meeting room. The project aims to create a more functional, accessible, and welcoming interior for both students and faculty, responding to the current spatial and social needs of the academic environment.

The interior design emphasizes a light and clean material palette to enhance the openness and visual comfort of the space. Birch plywood was combined with metal elements and white plaster to create a harmonious contrast between warm and technical materials. Colour accents in the shades of stools introduce playfulness and visual dynamism to the space. The floor is made of poured terrazzo, finished with a stainless-steel strip used as a baseboard—providing a subtle, durable, and elegant wall detail. Acoustic panels are installed on the ceiling to improve sound comfort and support the overall functionality of the interior.
