The assignment for this studio project was to develop an architectural study focused on the heritage restoration and adaptive reuse of a historic building — the old school in Všechovice.
The current state of the building does not meet the aesthetic or functional standards expected of a structure serving as a representative space for the municipality. As a new function, the proposal introduces an administrative and community center.
The design includes the preservation of the Bohuslav Fuchs Museum, the relocation of the local library from the current elementary school building, and the addition of new spaces for a café and the municipal office itself.

The design takes a contemporary approach to the restoration of façade elements. After careful consideration and detailed analysis, corner rustication and window surrounds (architraves) were reintroduced. These elements are reinterpreted in a modern way by recessing simple linear forms into the façade plaster. This solution emphasizes the lines of individual elements, particularly through the play of cast shadows.
The basic spatial layout is as follows:
The basement (1st underground floor) houses the technical facilities.
The ground floor (1st above-ground floor) includes a café, library, and the Bohuslav Fuchs museum.
The first floor (2nd above-ground floor) is dedicated to municipal offices.
The attic level is used for HVAC systems and ductwork.
In the entrance hall, all original decorative plasterwork is restored, creating a representative and welcoming entry to the building. On the right side of the entrance is the museum; to the left, the library, café, and sanitary facilities. The café also has a secondary entrance from a small adjacent courtyard, which features an outdoor seating area.
On the second floor, directly opposite the staircase, is the ceremonial hall, and to the left are the main administrative offices of the municipal authority. The new annex contains a meeting room and additional sanitary facilities.

The load-bearing system of the building is relatively well preserved. The vertical structural elements — primarily the walls — are in the best condition. The horizontal structures, such as ceilings, are also in fairly good shape.
The worst condition is observed in the roof truss, which has been damaged by wood-decaying fungi, insects, and moisture. The new extension will be structurally and statically independent, founded on piles. The only intervention in the original structural system will be the replacement of the damaged parts of the roof truss. Demolition work will mainly take place on the northern side of the building, where existing annexes will be removed.
The building's windows will need to be restored for functional, aesthetic, and especially thermal efficiency reasons.
Changes to the original structure are minimal. The most significant interventions occur at the location of the annexes, which will be demolished and replaced with a new addition. The extension will be completely independent both structurally and statically, and will be separated from the original building by an expansion joint.
It will consist of a monolithic reinforced concrete frame founded on micropiles. The new annex will be covered with a flat green roof with extensive vegetation. The façade of the original building will be newly rendered with light grey plaster. The new addition will feature a double-skin ventilated façade with light grey wooden cladding.
