Work description
Our biochemical department consists of at around 15-20 people containing PostDocs, PhD students, Master and Bachelor students, and technical staff. On the one side, we are working with AI-based computer design tools to generate new protein variants with different structure and/or function. On the other side, we are also doing experimental bench work to proove the protein designs in the lab. The student research project comprises the recombinant production, analysis and characterization of different protein designs. Thereby, molecular biological methods such as cloning and recombinant expression will be used. Afterwards, column purification as well as biochemical characterization methods will be conducted. In this context, the student will analyse protein folding and structure, conduct binding assays and characterize the protein functions. The project will also offer the oportunity to learn and use new protein design software and tools to design new proteins with desired structure and functions. The student will work together with a supervisor, who will teach and give advice during the whole project.
