Work description
The Contamination team at Volvo Cars - Vehicle attribute department, works with complete vehicle aspects of contamination. Contamination of a car could be in the form of snow, water, mud or dust and we perform both numerical analysis as well as physical testing in our wind tunnel facilities and at our test tracks to avoid contamination problems on future cars. The intent of the IAESTE position is to strengthen the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) resources within the team. The team is using StarCCM+ with DPM to simulate exterior snow contamination. For splashing or wading the SPH solver PreonLab is used. There will be possibilities to learn and use all existing methods within the team as well as taking part in operational and methodological development. In addition, there might be opportunities to take part in experiments in wind tunnels or on test track related to the simulations performed. Supervision will be provided during the internship, but the student is also expected to be able to work independently. Proficiency in commercial CFD codes such as StarCCM+ is required and experience in fluid dynamics is meritorious. A good understanding of data analytics and programming skills in Python or Java is also highly valued.
