The main topic of my thesis is based on a selected location that was part of the Multi Comfort Student Contest. This location is situated near the city of Lyon, France, specifically in the municipality of Villefontaine in the Isère department. The thesis focuses on the design of a residential zone that will primarily serve students and faculty members of Les Grands Ateliers and Compagnons de France. The location is close to the Les Grands Ateliers campus. From an architectural perspective, the residential zone is very well integrated into the surrounding environment, as it does not interfere with the existing urban fabric and meets the predefined requirements. The residential zone consists of four separate buildings connected by a pedestrian footbridge, which serves not only as a connection but also has both urbanistic and architectural functions. All four buildings have two above-ground floors, except for one building, where one part has a basement floor due to the terrain slope. These buildings are labeled A, B, C, and D. Each building has a distinct function: short-term accommodation, laboratory, offices/study rooms, multifunctional rooms, and a bistro. The aforementioned buildings are constructed using a variety of materials. The foundation is made of a wooden structure using CLT panels, complemented by steel Deltabeam beams. Stability and strength are ensured by reinforced concrete cores. As part of the assignment, the renovation of a historical building in the village of Chimilin was also included. The goal was to create flexible, year-round usable spaces for various organizations. The building was designed to be adaptable to new functions when needed.
