Biotopia is a poetic and environmentally attuned design proposal that places nature, architecture, and landscape into a harmonious dialogue. Situated in the biodiverse setting of the Yungas Rainforest and Escaba Reservoir, the project stands out as both an architectural intervention and an ecological experience—blending scientific research, tourism, and environmental stewardship.
Site-Specific Sensitivity: The project demonstrates a strong awareness of its natural context. The design respects the ecological significance of the island by elevating volumes off the ground and minimizing physical disturbance to the terrain.
Multifunctional Program: By combining scientific research areas, interpretive education spaces, and residential functions, the programmatic mix creates a holistic and layered user experience. This integration enhances the potential for Biotopia to become a hub for learning, observation, and contemplation.
Circulation & Spatial Strategy: The use of suspended ramps and gentle slopes contributes to the overall concept of lightness and immersion. This strategy successfully turns movement into an experiential act—enhancing the emotional and sensorial relationship between users and the environment.
Architectural Language: The radiating layout and terracing from water to hilltop create a compelling formal logic rooted in topography. The project’s architectural expression aligns with its biophilic aspirations.
Vision for Sustainable Tourism: On an urban scale, the proposal envisions a broader impact by linking tourism and ecological awareness to regional development. This long-view thinking adds depth to the project’s intent.
