Title: Enhancing the Human-Nature Relationship through Biophilic Design


Concept:

This project aims to integrate natural elements into built environments to enhance well-being and productivity. The focus is on Biophilic Design principles to create an inspiring workspace for startups in Tripoli, Lebanon.

Project Overview:

Type: Incubator Center
Location: Tripoli, Lebanon (next to Al Azm University). Tripoli was selected due to the lack of incubator centers in northern Lebanon, contrasting with Beirut’s established Beirut Digital District.
Site Area: 11,900 m²


Objective:

To create a healthy, stimulating environment for Lebanese youth, fostering creativity and innovation despite the challenges posed by the country's ongoing crises. The project leverages Biophilic Design to provide an inspiring workspace that supports professional growth and well-being


Functional Zones:

Create Zone: Dedicated to startups, offering dynamic and collaborative workspaces.
Share Zone: Reserved for mentors to support and guide startups, fostering a collaborative environment.

Design Challenges and Solutions:

Urban Context: The site is surrounded by high-density buildings and future construction sites, necessitating an inward-focused design.
Design Strategy: An introverted layout with a central courtyard creates a microclimate, ensuring natural ventilation, lighting, and a green oasis within the urban environment.


Biophilic Design Patterns Implemented:

Central Courtyard: Acts as the project’s focal point, enhancing natural ventilation, shading, and lighting while incorporating biophilic elements.
Dynamic Curved Green Roof: Aids in ventilation and integrates green spaces into the building.
Prospect and Refuge:
Refuge: represented by the cubes as startup offices provide a transition in urban elevation.
Prospect: Green screens formed by the curved roof enhance connectivity with nature.


Future Vision:

Designed to remain a green oasis amidst potential surrounding urban development, ensuring long-term sustainability and connection to nature.
