This project presents a sophisticated and contextually sensitive proposal for the redevelopment of the Schindler’s Ark site in Brněnec, Czech Republic, combining memory-driven museum programming with sustainable residential development. The site is thoughtfully subdivided into three zones—Part A for preservation and commemoration, Part B for residential regeneration, and Part C as connective tissue. The planning reflects an elegant spatial logic that strengthens the historical narrative while supporting contemporary urban integration.
The housing development employs a carefully articulated geometric layout that aligns with the valley’s topography and urban fabric, introducing L-shaped and rectangular blocks that mediate between old industrial volumes and the surrounding landscape. The inclusion of a woonerf and human-scale pathways enhances pedestrian engagement and community cohesion. The technical decision to construct using Cross Laminated Timber (CLT), supported by reinforced concrete foundations, reinforces the project’s environmental ethos and material authenticity.
Overall, this is a highly commendable urban and architectural proposal. It balances memory preservation, sustainable living, and neighborhood connectivity in a respectful and forward-looking manner—demonstrating excellent spatial planning, structural strategy, and cultural sensitivity.
