This project offers a beautifully sensitive and imaginative response to the challenge of adaptive reuse. Breathing new life into a historic building without erasing its past is no small feat, and this proposal does so with grace, functionality, and deep respect for the building’s legacy. It honors the original character—preserving defining elements such as arcades, vaults, and the building’s distinctive curvature—while seamlessly introducing modern interventions that make the space more accessible, livable, and socially relevant.
Reimagining a historic mill as a peaceful refuge for the elderly is both poetic and purpose-driven. The concept delicately interweaves themes of continuity, dignity, and revitalization—not only for the architecture, but also for its future residents. The spatial strategy is robust yet thoughtful: with community-facing services on the ground floor that encourage integration, and serene, residential levels above designed for comfort and care.
Circulation is intelligently conceived, with dual access points and the use of glass bridges that provide clarity, movement, and architectural expression. The inclusion of shared amenities—such as a library, chapel, lounge, and workshop—enriches the everyday experience and fosters a sense of belonging. VIP suites add another layer of sensitivity, addressing diverse needs and ensuring the facility remains inclusive and dignified.
From a technical standpoint, the project is grounded in clarity and durability. The use of brick and monolithic concrete instills a lasting presence, while the soft interior finishes and well-zoned layout cultivate a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
For future presentations, clearer visual storytelling—such as exploded axonometric views, sectional perspectives, or circulation diagrams—could further enhance clarity and audience engagement. Nevertheless, this is an ambitious and profoundly moving proposal that unites heritage, care, and community into a powerful architectural narrative.
Thank you for sharing this vision, Žaneta Pawlicová. Congratulations on a thoughtful and meaningful design!
