Hello,
Your urban design for the Papírenská area in Prague offers an exciting vision for revitalizing a historically and naturally significant location. The combination of modern residential development, cultural amenities, and public spaces demonstrates an insightful understanding of the site’s potential.
I particularly appreciate how you’ve respected the area’s industrial heritage, notably the old wastewater treatment plant, while seamlessly integrating modern elements like the pedestrian bridge and cultural hub. This thoughtful approach preserves the site’s history while making room for vibrant, contemporary development.
As an experienced urban designer, I would recommend a deeper exploration of how the public spaces will function during different seasons. Given Prague's climate, the design of green areas, recreational zones, and pedestrian paths could be enhanced with features that encourage year-round use—perhaps with seasonal programming or installations that keep the area active and appealing even in winter months.
Additionally, considering flood management in this area is crucial, your approach of raising the land around Papírenská Street and using piles for buildings closer to the river is sound. It might be worth exploring more sustainable flood prevention measures, such as green roofs or water-retaining landscaping, that could further integrate nature into the design and provide ecological benefits.
Lastly, the integration of the old field railway bridge and the planned pedestrian bridge offers an excellent opportunity to create unique viewpoints and connections. It might be beneficial to explore how lighting and landscaping can enhance these features at night, creating an inviting atmosphere that attracts visitors after dark.
Best of luck with your education and future career!
