I really like the concept of introducing a transparent glass box as the addition rather than demolishing the original building. This creates a clear contrast between the lightweight new construction and the heavy, historical structure. The use of wood material brings warmth and gives the space an inviting, community-center tone, while the strategy of a triple-floor-high volume in the glass box emphasizes the concept and provides a generous entry space.
For improvement, in the elevation the windows and skylights are all the same size. It could be more interesting and programmatically accurate if the window sizes were varied according to the interior uses. Also, adding wood slat covers to some of the windows could create dynamic shadow play inside. As a precedent, the Hanzans persons cultural center handles new-old relationships well by preserving the historic structure while integrating contemporary elements. For the glass addition, aligning horizontal mullions at slab heights would help create a more continuous transition.
