The "METRO LAKEFRONT RESIDENCES: WHERE URBAN VIBRANCE EMBRACES NATURE’S SERENITY" project by Tasnia Nazneen and Khan Dhrupad Mustapha from BRAC University presents a visionary approach to urban housing in Dhaka's Diabari area. Spanning 15.44 acres, the design integrates residential, commercial, cultural, and community facilities, fostering a self-sustaining neighborhood. The project's emphasis on walkability, connectivity to metro and boat stations, and incorporation of green spaces like parks and vertical gardens demonstrates a commitment to sustainable and inclusive urban living.
Employing the "New Contextualism" approach, the design thoughtfully considers various contextual filters—geographical, social, historical, and ecological—to create a harmonious blend of urban vibrancy and natural serenity. Climate-responsive features, such as building orientation for shading and ventilation, along with the use of vertical greens, enhance environmental comfort. Overall, the project stands out for its holistic integration of sustainability, community engagement, and contextual sensitivity in urban design.
