The "Dhamar Ali Sustainable Heritage City" project by Raed Al-Omari from Thamar University in Yemen presents a compelling vision that harmoniously blends Yemen’s rich architectural heritage with contemporary urban planning. Drawing inspiration from traditional Yemeni cities, the design incorporates elements such as hilltop forts, narrow alleys, and communal courtyards, creating an environment that fosters exploration and cultural engagement. The project's layout encourages visitors to meander through interconnected courtyards, each offering unique activities and experiences, thereby enhancing the sense of discovery and community interaction.
The development encompasses a diverse range of facilities, including cultural venues like museums and theaters, commercial spaces such as markets and cafes, educational institutions, and tourist accommodations nestled among agricultural terraces. By utilizing local materials and traditional construction techniques, the project not only pays homage to Yemen's architectural legacy but also promotes sustainability and environmental integration. This thoughtful approach positions the project as a model for culturally sensitive and sustainable urban development.
